Thus, their follow up album Need You Now was expected to include the same musical precision while increasing the lyrical complexity, in both syntax and theme. Unfortunately, the latter expectation is unfulfilled. Although most songs are pleasant to listen to, the majority do not venture beyond simple lyrics, some consisting of remarkably similar words. The most satisfying exception is the title song “Need You Now” which includes delicate chord progressions over beautiful harmonies. Telling the story of an obsessive lover,  the song’s melody and guitar sections is reminiscent of Fleetwood Mac.

Despite the strength of the one song, Lady Antebellum’s second album leaves much to be desired.
